SARAH CHAIKIND
PRESIDENT & CO-FOUNDER
My name is Sarah Chaikind and I am a senior at Virginia Tech with a major in Biological Systems Engineering and a double minor in Biomedical Engineering and Philosophy. I am originally from just outside of Washington, DC and I attended McLean High School. Coming from Farifax County, one of the most prestigious public school systems in the country, I often, and mistakenly, took the beauty of my education for granted. However, I believe that education is not only a fundamental human right, but moreover the underlying key to greater international stability, equality, and peace. I strongly believe that every child, despite gender, disability, sexual orientation, and any other factor, has a right to the same education and has the potential to become greatness. However, without proper education, these children are lost to poverty, radicalism, and unemployment. Although universal education would not solve all international issues, or come close to it, it would provide a channel for increased opportunity. I decided to create FEARless as a means to spread my passion for propagating education to those less fortunate and to hopefully make as much of an impact on others as Malala Yousafzai made on me. In addition, I hope FEARless can raise money to aid female schools and teachers and most importantly provide inspiration to girls who may otherwise feel as if they don't have a right to the basic human rights opportunity to education that every child should have.

KATIE TALLEY
DIRECTOR OF EXTERNAL AFFAIRS
My name is Katie Talley, and I am currently a senior at Virginia Tech. Being an International Studies major, I have a passion for learning about other cultures and traditions. One tradition that I cannot comprehend is the degregation of women and the restraints put on them to obtain an education; throughout the world. When I heard about FEARless, I had to be a part of it. Growing up in a small town near Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, I was lucky to have the opportunity to recieve an excellent education and then the support of my family to persue my dreams of a higher education degree. Too many women in the world don't have the opportunities that I have had and I, with FEARless, am looking to change that. I cannot wait to see how many lives FEARless changes, both overseas and with our own member and donors. The feeling of helping someone be educated brings both relief and bliss; it is knowing that by each woman, man, girl and boy that are educated, our world is becoming a better place.

MEGAN FREY
DIRECTOR OF FUNDRAISING
My name is Megan Frey, and I am currently a junior majoring in Chemical Engineering. I am also the incoming fundraising chair for FEARless. I am very excited to work with the club! My interest in
education equality and women’s rights first started when I was a junior in high school. My Girl Scout troop was focusing on the topic of sisterhood at the time. To get into our discussions, we watched a documentary about women around the world called Half the Sky. It was eye opening; women from around the world were interviewed and topics from marital abuse, inequality in the justice system, and education were covered. The stories that the women that were sharing in the documentary were truly horrific, and the strength they showed inspired me. Even though they were oppressed, they were trying to make a change in the world. Some started safe havens for victims of abuse, or education programs for young girls who were rescued from prostitution. I wanted to help in some way, too. During the first semester of my freshman year I encountered the FEARless club, and I could immediately identify with their goals for education equality. I am so glad I’ve joined!

REILLY MATHEWS
ASSISTANT DIRECTOR OF
EXTERNAL AFFAIRS
Reilly is a sophomore at Virginia Tech. She is currently undecided but plans to declare a business marketing major. She is minoring in Italian.

CATHY KIESS
VICE PRESIDENT & CO- FOUNDER
My name is Cathy Kiess and I am currently a fourth year at Virginia Tech pursuing a bachelors and masters degree in International Studies. Fascinated by international cultures, I hope to never stop learning because there is infinitely more about the world that I want to know. Coming from Northern Virginia just outside of Washington, D.C. I was blessed to have the opportunity to become exposed to a multitude of cultures and ideas through an excellent public school system. However, a very small percentage of young people, especially women, around the world will have such an opportunity. I co-founded this club because I believe that everyone should have the opportunity to learn and have a shot at becoming whatever they choose. In today’s society success stories do not dominate our news cycle. There is poverty, economic crisis, terrorism- to name a few. Investing in educations returns tenfold as people are lifted out of poverty and maybe we all will begin to understand and respect each other a bit more. My hope for FEARless is that it raises funds and resources for schools abroad, but more than that that FEARless raises awareness and helps make education a real international issue that countries will begin to support together.

ERIC GIEWONT
DIRECTOR OF INTERNAL AFFAIRS
My name is Eric Giewont, and I am currently a junior at Virginia Tech. I am majoring in the field of Computer Engineering and plan to declare a focus on software controls and algorithms. I come from a prominently wealthy section of Central Pennsylvania. Growing up in such a wealthy upper-middle class environment facilitates a sheltered view of the world, making it disturbingly easy to forget that education is all too often considered a privilege rather than a right. Now, more than ever, the world needs gifted professionals in every single field imaginable to forge solutions to increasingly complex problems that are permeating the modern era. Education can transform the millions of illiterate children across the developing world into people who have the power to discover a truly viable alternative energy source, cure the next global epidemic, or stop the next world war. To deny anyone, regardless of gender, race, sexual orientation, or other differences, the chance to achieve greatness is nothing short of a crime. I found an outlet for my convctions in FEARless: I was struck by the youthful passion and drive that constitutes the organization, shining as a prime example of how anyone has the power to change the world and see their vision become a reality. I believe that we stand on the verge of a day where the world will have to make a choice; accept change and survive or remain stubborn and doom itself. I know FEARless, through striving for education rights, will assist the world in making the right choice. I hope all who read this will do the same.
