First Scholarship Recipient Announced

Dear family and friends of FEARless,

The fall semester has officially begun at Virginia Tech, and with it an extraordinary milestone has been reached by FEARless. As of Friday, August 28th, our first scholarship of $250.00 U.S. dollars has been wired to the Afghanistan Learning Development Organization, directed at one young woman who will use the money for an entire year of education from the Kandahar Institute of Modern Studies! The executive board is beyond overjoyed to finally bring this news to all who read this document, and our heartfelt thanks goes out to all who have donated, either online through our website (http://fearlessvt.wix.com/befearless), or at 1 a.m. in Downtown Blacksburg.

Our recipient’s name is Arzo, a 19-year-old Afghani girl (photograph on next page). Even at such a young age, she is the sole provider of financial support for her household, which she accomplishes by teaching basic literacy courses. She is still enrolled in school, however, studying English and Computer Technology at the Kandahar Institute for Modern Studies as well as Business Management online through the SAIT Polytechnic Institute. Her quest for a better life has not gone without difficulty, however, as she has been the victim of an attack by the Taliban. This heartless assault did not dampen her resolve, and one day, she wishes to support her country by becoming a businesswoman or a politician, as well as serving as a role model for others who are like her. Her favorite movie is Titanic and she enjoys reading books about various topics to become more knowledgeable about the world around her.

Once again, the executive board is incredibly excited to be able to support this amazing young woman who is a role model to all of us in FEARless. This could not have been possible without all of you who support us in our endeavor to make education a worldwide right. It is with your continued support that our organization can grow into a sustainable fund for scholarships for many young men and women across the world. At this humbling time, we ask for your continued support, with which we can alter the course of numerous young lives by turning dreams of education into realities.
